The Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center has taken on the amazing responsibility of sponsoring many local events including the Spring Fling, the Spring Fling Flea Market & Craft Fair, the Stumptown Daze Parade, June Tunes, the Guerneville Fireworks Celebration, the Fall Fling, the Fall Fling Flea Market & Craft Fair, and the Parade of Lights. In addition they are supportive of the local community events and are very active in the community. They often attend local events both to show their support and to take pictures and video for their website and Facebook. In doing this they continue to let people who are visiting know what is happening on the Russian River.
The Chamber is a non-profit organization with about 270 business members ranging from small businesses to large international companies. There are two reasons why people join the Chamber of Commerce out here on the Russian River. The first are people who are building their businesses and are looking for direct referrals, networking opportunities, and greater visibility for their businesses. These people know that the Russian River Chamber of Commerce is one of the best places to achieve this type of exposure since they meet a ton of people every year both visiting and local that have questions about the Russian River area and the businesses located in the area! The second reason is to strengthen the community. The motivation behind this is that people want to strengthen the environment and change public policy to help create healthy and positive solutions in a safe relaxing atmosphere.
Here at Millar and Company we were very drawn to the second part of the Chamber's mission statement that says "In concert with our natural environment." This appealed to us particularly because one of our core beliefs here is protecting and preserving the natural environment and the message that the Chamber's mission statement is sending is that they are going to promote businesses but not at the expense of the environment. This is important because it shows so much integrity and love of the area that more people are drawn in because they feel respect for a Chamber that would demonstrate such qualities!
Luana Gerardt, local manager of the Russian River Chamber of Commerce, said recently that when she hears the phrase Russian River Living it makes her think about kayaking down the Russian River and taking in all of the natural beauty of the river.
