Downtown Forestville Neighborhood Guide
Sunshine, a small-town main street, and the countryside close at hand: Downtown Forestville brings together many of the things people love about western Sonoma County. This is Forestville's central hub, where the Russian River area meets the roads toward Sebastopol and Santa Rosa. Open spaces, vineyards, and apple orchards give the surrounding landscape an easy, rural feeling, even with everyday conveniences nearby.

Front Street: the heart of downtown
Front Street, the downtown stretch of Highway 116, serves as Forestville's main street. This is where you find the concentration of shops, restaurants, cafes, and places to meet for a drink. The commercial center is compact, with residential streets branching out nearby. It feels like a country town rather than a large shopping district.
For someone who wants to live close to town without giving up the rural surroundings, this is a natural place to start exploring. The transition from downtown businesses to homes, gardens, and open land happens quickly.
Sunshine, gardens, and a more open country setting
One of Downtown Forestville's appealing qualities is its sunshine and open, rolling feeling. Compared with some of the more deeply wooded Russian River neighborhoods, parts of central Forestville offer a brighter setting with space for gardens and outdoor living. Vineyards and apple orchards remain part of the countryside surrounding town.
The residential area extends along Mirabel Road and Covey Road, with nearby streets including Davis Road, Giusti Road, Nolan Road, Van Keppel Road, and Anderson Road. Closer to the commercial center, Center Street, First Street, Second Street, Forestville Lane, Forestville Street, and Packing House Road help define the near-town setting. Lot sizes, shade, and the relationship to the road vary from property to property.
For an example of this sunny, near-town character, watch David's Packing House Road property tour. It is a past property tour rather than a current availability announcement.
Public sewer in the downtown core
Downtown Forestville has public sewer service through the Forestville Water District. That is a meaningful distinction from many rural homes in the surrounding countryside, where septic systems are common. The sewer-service area is smaller than the district's water-service area, so a Forestville address or district water connection does not by itself establish sewer service.
When comparing homes, we can help identify the service information for the particular property. David's Forestville sewer-district video explains the distinction, and the district provides its own wastewater and sewer information.
Close to Santa Rosa, with the river nearby
Forestville can offer the best of both worlds: a country setting with access to Santa Rosa's shopping, services, and conveniences. Many trips to Santa Rosa are roughly 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the destination and traffic. Sebastopol is another nearby connection along Highway 116.
The Russian River Valley and the Russian River are also close at hand. Burke's Canoe Trips, north of downtown toward the river, is part of the area's familiar river-recreation landscape. Downtown itself is inland; living near the shops does not mean a home is riverfront or has private river access.
The West County Regional Trail adds another way to enjoy the area, connecting Forestville with Graton and Sebastopol along a former railroad route through the countryside. Forestville Youth Park and the local library are additional parts of the central Forestville setting.
Is Downtown Forestville a good fit?
This neighborhood is worth considering if you want sunshine, a small-town center, and a rural Sonoma County feeling while staying convenient to Santa Rosa. The appeal is the balance: shops and restaurants nearby, agricultural landscapes around town, and the Russian River a short drive away.
