The Historical Hacienda Bridge Unites Guerneville And Forestville!

The Hacienda Bridge is what unites Guerneville and Forestville across the Russian River. Throughout the 1900's the Hacienda bridge was used by the North Western Pacific Railroad to travel across the Russian River. The Health Of The Russian River

The last few decades have given rise to the booming fast food industry in the United States. Obesity and Diabetes is off the charts and more and more people are feeling sick and lethargic from the high amounts of sugar, carbohydrates and chemicals that saturate their diets. However, with the rise of the fast food industry another industry took hold giving life to what is now known as the Slow Food Movement. The Russian River has always been a place where slow food was part of the culture and lure and people came to this area to experience that.

Before I get ahead of myself let me tell you a little bit about the slow food movement. The truth is slow food has been around since humans have. It requires planting seeds, tending to crops and harvesting at the appropriate time of year. It is the very foundation from which we have fed ourselves for generations. The Native Americans grew crops, hunted, and gathered food and then took the time and care to cook it. Their culture was tied up in what they ate as they saw their body as something sacred that they did not want to corrupt. As the fast food industry began to take off many people rose up against it and refused to join in this new way of life. This is when the Slow Food Movement swept across the United States. The Slow Food Movement is there to preserve the culture and tradition of planting and harvesting. It promotes livestock and excludes the use of pesticides, chemicals, and genetically modified foods.

The Russian River has been in full support of the Slow Food Movement since before it even began. The Gravenstien apples are a good example of this since Sebastopol still carries the tradition of the Apple Blossom Festival, that celebrates the blossoms as it is a sign that there will be a good crop, as well as the Gravenstien Apple Fair which celebrates having completed another harvest. Local's Michelle Graham and Jason Winamaki will be opening Blended Choice in the spring 2015 and are in full support of the Slow Food Movement choosing to use only local organic Russian River produce for their smoothies on Armstrong Woods road in Guerneville. Michelle says that "eating local is a win win win situation! Beginning on September 24th at Vacation Beach here in Guerneville the summer dams will start to be taken down. The Process takes some time as the workers remove one board at a time letting the water out slowly. On September 27th the work will begin at Johnson's beach to take down the dam there. The entire process for both locations will be complete as of October first! This impacts both the locals and those who are vacationing here from out of the Russian river area.

All About The Russian River Summer Dams

The first major change is that the summer bridge at Vacation beach will no longer be there. This is really important to those who use the bridge regularly during the summer because once it comes down you will be able to drive down onto the beach but will no longer be able to get across the river. Also on one side of the river it is very difficult to get your car out once you have driven down unless you go across the bridge and since the bridge will not be there cars will have difficulty turning around

Also once the bridges have been removed it is the ideal time for fishing at the Russian River since the Salmon and Steel head begin swimming upstream and will be inundating the river. This is the perfect time to grab the fishing gear and head on out to the Russian River for some peaceful fishing time. Sold Today On The Russian River!

On August 22nd of this year, I listed one of the areas most prominent vacation rentals by the name of Rising Star! Rising Star sold this morning on the Russian River for $838,000! The home features three bedrooms and two baths for a total of 1602 square feet with some bonus space available as well. Millar and Company hosted an open house on August 24th and within 5 days we were in escrow! Both the buyers and the sellers agreed to a short escrow and as of this morning, the property is officially on record having switched hands. This transaction went very smoothly with both the buyers and the sellers working with us to make sure that everything fell into place at just the right time!

As a Russian River Real Estate agent this is my favorite part of the job. I list a home and market it like crazy. I hold an open house to generate more interest in the home. Then I find a buyer and write the offer. When escrow is opened it is rather exciting and we begin the process of negotiation between the buyer and seller. Russian River Living

I have lived and worked on the Russian River for some time now and I have discovered that there are really only two ways of seeing the Russian River area. Back in the day the Pomo Indians referred to Guerneville as Ceola which means the dark place. They viewed the Russian River area as being haunted due to the shadows cast by the thick cover of the trees. Many people today see the floods and water damage and the dark cold nights in the canyons on the Russian River. These things are all part of living on the Russian River, however that's not all there is to living here!

The other way to see the area is to look at the thousand year old redwoods that stretch high into the sky, the beautiful Russian River as the current carries otters and seals in from the ocean, and the powerful Pacific Ocean as the peaceful waves chase seashells up onto the shore. This is the way I choose to see this area. I chose to look out at the mountains of Cazadero dotted with majestic redwoods and graced with a sweet the incredibly peaceful Austin Creek and see the true beauty of this area!

Encompassing these two viewpoints you will get a better idea of what life on the Russian River is all about. But that is not all...some things are not seen but felt! We have a very close knit and loving community here on the Russian River. We are known here on the Russian River as a "Hate Free Community." In other words we don't care if you are gay, straight, white, black, democrat, or republican...if you are ready to leave your judgement at the door then you will be accepted with open arms and loving hearts. If you have ever lived in a small town then you know that everyone knows everyone. That is how this town operates. New people are sought out and welcomed and quickly become part of our Russian River community.

Russian River Community

There are some more quirky parts of living on the Russian River as well. We have Tony, the street sweeper who keeps the streets clean and works solely on tips! He used to be homeless and the small businesses began tipping him when he would clean their windows and pick up the garbage on the sidewalk. He quickly became one of the town's greatest assets and a part of our Russian River home. We also have the Mermaids. These are a bunch of people that dress up like mermaids and do water shows as well as other community service on the Russian River in order to raise money to help save the ocean wildlife and provide clean water sources for the community. Another good example of our quirky community are the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, which we simply call the sisters. They hold large bingo games and dress up in all sorts of glamour to raise money to support local charities. They are part of what holds this Russian River community together. Although from the outside these people all seem a bit strange, in truth they have the support of the community due to their big hearts and selfless personalities!
